Commissioned Ruling Elder Training

This two year training program is for individuals seeking to expand their service to the church and become commissioned ruling elders (formerly commissioned lay pastors). The presbyteries and the synod recognize this as a way to provide pastoral leadership to the congregations unable to secure full time ordained staff.

The next class may begin in 2013, depending upon demand. Classes consist of 12 contact hours each and are offered on twelve weekends during the 2-year period. Areas of study include:

  • Spirituality and Healthy Ministry

  • Old Testament

  • New Testament

  • Preaching

  • Worship

  • Sacraments

  • Church History and Reformed Theology

  • Polity/Administration

  • Church Education

  • Pastoral Care/Personal and Professional Boundaries

  • Contextual Ministry
