Congregational Development Subcommittee

The work of the synod Congregational Development Subcommittee is to encourage, financially and with prayer, mission projects in the synod. Your congregation's contributions to basic mission support help make these grants possible and help spread the gospel in our synod.

Prayer list for New Church Developments, Church Transformation, and Mission Projects

Presbytery of Blackhawk

Emmaus Road NCD, the Reverend Won Ho Kim, organizing pastor, continues to reach out to 25 to 40 year old people who are de-churched and anti-institutional, describing themselves as “spiritual but not religious.”

Christ Cross-Cultural Community Church NCD, the Reverend Nancy Abiera, organizing pastor, creatively engages a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic community.

Marengo Latino Ministry, the Reverend Phyllis Mueller, project leader, finds the project creating greater demand on personnel resources more quickly than anticipated as they provide Spanish language worship and workshops to people in McHenry County, Ill.

Central Presbyterian Church, New Lenox, Ill., Evangelism Project seeks to reconnect the congregation with its growing community.

Presbytery of Chicago

African American Congregational Transformation Churches, the Reverend Dr. Alvin Bridges, project director.  These eight predominantly African-American congregations have already made great strides transforming their ministries and pray that with support from presbytery, synod and GA, they will indeed mount up like eagles to engage their communities.

Wicker Park NCD, the Reverend Nanette Sawyer, organizing pastor, grows spiritually and demonstrates an emerging faith community.

South Asian NCD, the Reverend Samuel J. Akhtar, organizing pastor, continues to grow rapidly among recent immigrants from Pakistan and neighboring countries.  While they are exceeding their goals of numbers of worship attendees, the social discrimination and legal strife of this community necessitates continued support from GA, synod and the presbytery.

Presbytery of Midwest Hanmi

Korean Crystal PC (NCD), Park Ridge, Ill. (northern Chicago suburb), the Reverend Jin Nyun Kim, organizing pastor, refocuses their ministry following a change of pastors, and presenting computer classes to engage their community.

Presbytery of Ohio Valley

The presbytery seeks insight for two new church developments.

Presbytery of Southeastern Illinois

Korean Presbyterian Church, Urbana, is preparing a grant request to invite the presbytery, synod and GA to participate in their Newcomers Settlement Ministry.

Presbytery of Wabash Valley

The presbytery seeks inspiration for an Hispanic congregation probe near Hammond, Ind., in cooperation with an Hispanic congregation in the Presbytery of Chicago. A recent demographic study highlights the need for a new church development to support this growing Hispanic community.

Christ Presbyterian Church, Winfield, Ind., the Reverend David Smook, pastor. This transformation project will jump start their staff and engage the congregation with their rapidly growing community.

Presbytery of Whitewater Valley

Calvary Third United Presbyterian Church (Redevelopment), the Reverend T. Alan Thames, pastor, has recently called a new associate pastor for neighborhood ministries.

Hispanic Worship Mission Fellowship.  This special ministry project supports continued growth in Hispanic ministries in the churches of the Presbytery of Whitewater Valley and in the Presbytery of Northern Quintana Roo, Mexico.
